National Tests for all 6/7 year olds

Assessments in reading, spelling, punctuation, grammar and maths

3. Reading Comprehension
2 papers
1st paper – short sections of text with pictures then questions to follow each section
2nd paper – longer text with questions in a separate answer booklet

4. SPaG 2 papers 1st paper – short questions covering
sentence grammar, punctuation and
vocabulary
2nd paper – 20 spellings in context administered orally

5. Maths
2 papers
1st paper – arithmetic paper assesses basic +, –, x and ÷ and fractions of numbers.
2nd paper – problem solving and reasoning

6. Important information
NCTs only inform teacher assessment
Teacher discretion when to stop a test for individual children
Explained as: ‘special work to show how fantastic they are.’
