3 Public Policy Consists of institutional actions & procedures pursued by a gov’t. in carrying out its functions

Legislative Branch (Congress) consisting of the House of Representatives & the U.S. Senate makes the laws

5 Constitutional roles for each of the 3 branches of gov’t.
Executive Branch (President) consisting of the President’s Cabinet & all of the executive agencies enforces the laws

6 Constitutional roles for each of the 3 branches of gov’t.
Judicial Branch (Courts) consisting of the U.S. Supreme Court & all of the federal courts interprets the laws

Actions/procedures for each of the 3 branches of gov’t. in establishing public policy Legislative Branch – conducts oversight investigations; institutes impeachment proceedings; approves treaties & the federal budget; passes resolutions

Directions - Individually (1 extra credit pt.) or in groups of 2, students will create (electronic or by hand) a table/chart illustrating all of the following for each branch of government… Who comprises each branch Major power/responsibility for each branch Major public policy responsibilities for each branch At least one specific current example of a public policy initiative undertaken by each branch Assessment – 15pts. Content – 12pts. (4x3) Effort/Creativity – 3pts.
