10 London City Airport - expansion
Statutory body support We are working with the Greater London Authority to consider the impacts of noise and air quality on the residents and businesses local to London City Airport. In common with many UK airports growth has been constrained by environmental concerns in recent years. The Mayor of London has directed that the proposed expansion plans at London City Airport be refused. We are seeking to establish whether schemes such as this could proceed in an environmentally-friendly yet practical manner . PRP Architects

11 DP World – London Gateway
Ecology site management Charged with delivering the London Gateway Port, DP World has worked closely with The Ecology Consultancy for the past six years. The works include a new deep-water port able to handle the largest container ships in the world, as well as one of Europe’s largest logistics parks, with access by road and railway to London and the rest of the country. The phased construction will take several more years to complete. The new port arrangements have significant effects on approximately 70 hectares of mudflats, which are essential habitat for wintering birds, particularly waders. The ditches also provide habitat for an extensive population of water-voles, a European Protected Species. The challenge for DP World and our team of ecologists was to find suitable alternative arrangements for the wildlife. The Ecology Consultancy continues to monitor the progress of the maturing habitat and oversee its management, at the same time as keeping an eye out for a key water-vole predator, the invasive American Mink. It is anticipated the site will become a haven for wildlife, complementing and extending the already present important wildlife areas of the north Kent coast.

12 M25 DBFO and A14 Highways Ecology management
We have provided services support for the M25 DBFO and the A14 projects recently We delivered ecology surveys as part of these projects, including wintering and breeding birds, great crested newts and bats. A combination of survey techniques using the latest advances in detection equipment, were used to establish the importance of the area for bats over the summer. We provided manual transects and static monitoring points along likely commuting routes, coupled with detailed building and trees assessments, were employed. We reported the presence of European and nationally protected species, including bats, birds and great crested newt, identified key sites for birds and bats within the scheme footprint. We provided detailed baseline conditions to enable a comprehensive Ecological Impact Assessment to determine the likely effects of the schemes on wildlife.
