1 Amherstburg Public School Eco Team!! Power-point Created By: Kyle Best

2 We are committed to maintaining an eco friendly environment !
For our efforts we are a gold star school two years running!

3 A dedicated Eco Team keeps this ship running smooth!
Many Thanks to all our hard working students and local supporters

4

5 We involve ourselves in all that resembles an Eco School
We are responsible for creating and maintaining Greening projects We ensure that our Energy Conservation is high so we may keep our environmental footprint to a minimum And we take every step necessary to stay on top of our Waste Management

6 What have earned our green thumbs!
We are responsible for Greening Projects such as planting trees for shade, flowers and just this year we added a naturalized area on our large playground.

7 As students are the central reason for school we feel they should be central in school decisions!
In the same survey 47 percent of students voted they wanted more tree shade on the playground, and we gave it to them!

8 Keeping our thumbs green
In fact next week 25 new trees will be planted on our school grounds!

9 For aesthetics and function we have added natural usable landscape items
38 percent of our students wanted sitting rock, so we gave it to them!

10 We are ENERGIZED about saving energy!
As a school we aim to ensure all lights are turned off when a room is left empty By conserving energy we are saving money and creating less of a footprint on our beloved environment Just in case we forget there is a sign above every light All the small things count!

11 The Energy Eagles keep an eye on the school

12 Our Waste Audit Numbers
53 lbs. of total waste collected in 1 day broken down into: - 34 lbs. of garbage - 13 lbs. of recycle - 3 lbs. of compost - 3 lbs. of untouched

13 How we maintain those numbers!
In every class there is a compost bin and multiple recycle bins - one for paper and one for plastics We have incorporated GOOSE BINS to reduce the number of bairly used paper that gets recycled before it is fully used

14 Restoring our River, together!
We are working with DRCC is a partnership of municipal, provincial, and federal governments, local industries, researchers, non-governmental organizations and citizens launched in 1998 to cleanup, enhance, restore and sustain the Detroit River ecosystem. Partnerships within the DRCC aim to promote and implement a cleanup plan called a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) to restore the Detroit River’s beneficial uses with the goal of removing the Detroit River from the list of Great Lakes Areas of Concern. The DRCC’s members provide leadership in identifying partnerships and funding opportunities to support and complete cleanup goals for the Detroit River. Restoring our River, together!

15 The DRCC approached us expressing support for our eco projects!
They liked the results of our student surveys 51 percent of the student body voted they wanted a wetland (waterfall)

16 Our growth as a school continues!
Our future plans involve creating a wetland/prairie on our school grounds!

17 Our future plans We plan on adding a fenced in wetland
To make this more interactive we will include a path that travels around the wetland and down the north side of the playground Within the wetland there will be a number of interpretative panels highlighting concepts such as bio-magnification and the consequences it has on our school mascot, the Eagle A prairie landscape will continue on from the wetland to surround the path on the north side of the playground

18 A quick visual Orange lines represent what we feel our path will look like

19 All we need is the right support to make our dreams come true
With help from Corporations such as Honeywell our dream is inching closer to coming true All we need now is continued support from our community, and our local municipality Our dreams are in motion, will you be able to say you helped make them a reality?

20 A BIG THANK YOU! We would like to thank our corporate sponsors Honeywell, DRCC, the parent involvement council, and all those individuals who dedicate their time and money to the eco team Thank you all for your future support!
