2 Content Risk sensitive landuse planning (RSLUP)
Kathmandu Urban Transport Master Plan (KUTMP) Open space revival project Eco-Friendly Water and Sanitation Infrastructure in a school

3 1 Risk Sensitive Land Use Planning (RSLUP)

4 population Growth Rate
1 Risk Sensitive Land Use Planning (RSLUP) Population in KV in the census year 2011 was 2.46 million with the annual growth rate of 4.63%. population Growth Rate Madhyapur municipality established in 27th March 1998

5 1 Risk Sensitive Land Use Planning (RSLUP)
Projection for BAU model Around 103 sq. km of additional land will be required for urban development in 2030 if the existing trend persist. By 2030 the urban area of the valley will be sq.km which is twice as much as present built-up area.

6 Risk Sensitive Land Use Planning (RSLUP)
1 Risk Sensitive Land Use Planning (RSLUP) Figure : Constrains for Development in KV Area with restrictions in KV is 59% and the area with risks is 38% of the total 722 sq.km Several risks and restrictions overlap with one another and hence the total constraints sum up to 65%, inferring constraint free non-built up areas of 35% remaining in the KV

7 1 Risk Sensitive Land Use Planning (RSLUP)
RSLUP was conducted for all 22 municipality So basically it was this project that gave us overall idea of risk in the valley and way forward as we knew where to build and where to take different measures for sustainable development Colour zones at municipal/VDC ward levels

8 2 Kathmandu Urban Transport Master Plan (KUTMP)
Those municipalities/ VDC having less than 30% of non-built up constraint free area are put in RED category (AVOID), 30% to less than 60% in YELLOW category (CONTROL) and more than 60% in GREEN category (PROMOTE) Development Constrain Map of Kathmandu Valley Colour zones at municipal/VDC ward levels

11 ISSUES : No Well-defined schedules Unreliable Poorly maintained Dirty Overcrowded Uncomfortable In 2002 Arniko highway was extended from 4 lane to 6 lane but now in 2017 the condition is the same.

14 Open space Nandi keshwar Bagaicha (Garden) revival project
3 Open space Nandi keshwar Bagaicha (Garden) revival project The garden has a historic value, it was a part of Nandi Keshwar temple built in 1801 A.D Area of the site: 1 Ha Issues: dumping the construction material and other household waste, parking, play ground . And the noise pollution was very high Special features : Rain Harvesting, Solar Lighting, Emergency Tool Kit Ponding in central portion of the land Garbage Disposal in the site

15 Open space Nandi keshwar Bagaicha (Garden) revival project
3 Open space Nandi keshwar Bagaicha (Garden) revival project Community level search and rescue tools Issues before the park construction Park being used after disaster Construction was carried out with the involvement of local community , local Police , government institutions such as KVDA . Now, similar parks are being developed in two other places1) Sainbu, 2)Gokul chaur

16 4 Eco-Friendly Water and Sanitation Infrastructure In Satya Sai Shiksha Sadan, Tokha, Kathmandu Major issues : Rapid urbanization, water scarcity, open drainage, poor/ not operating WWTS Project activities To create waste water treatment system To harvest rainwater To recharge ground water (perforated paving) To reduction of heat island effect To create more green areas (medicinal and aromatic plants)

17 4 Eco-Friendly Water and Sanitation Infrastructure In Sathya Sai Shiksha Sadan, Tokha, Kathmandu Anaerobic Baffle Reactor(ABR) Recharging Pond and Drain Perforated pavements Drainage with stone for better perforation rather than just runoff And retention ponds or recharge beds Recharging beds Recharging well
