Industrial agriculture causes many problems such as: Contaminated ground water (from both chemicals and manure) Overuse of water. CAFO/feed lots, mixed crop/livestock. Sanitary issues (manure in lakes and streams.) Animal welfare issues. Disease issues. Environment: land quality, air quality, water quality.

5 Solution: Sustainable Practices
Sensitive land management: ridge tillage and composting. Limited chemicals (use organic compounds as herbicides and “good” insects as pesticides.) Organic Movement. Animals consume crops grown on farm and have free range…fertilizing the soil. It is a circular system where all benefit.

Sustainable agriculture is the key to our future. It respects the environment, gives food access to all, and does it at an affordable price so that MDC’s and LDC’s can benefit.
