2 ESSA ESSA – Every Student Succeeds Act (2015)
Updates the No Child Left Behind law Provides states and school districts more freedom to make educational decisions Updates indicators used to determine school accountability Refines how schools are identified for more targeted support

3 ESSA Plan Requirements

4 Performance Measures PARCC English Language Arts/Mathematics Proficiency Graduation Rate (HS) Student Growth Percentiles (ES/MS) Chronic Absenteeism (10% absence or more) English Language Proficiency (if applicable)

5 How Are Schools Measured?
By 2030, schools must meet all target goals 80% of students proficient in ELA and Math 95% Graduation Rate (4 year cohort)/ 96% Graduation Rate (5 year cohort) 85% of English Language Learners increasing by one level on WIDA ACCESS Interim Targets Schools must close 25% of gap by 2021 Schools must close 60% of gap by 2026 Schools will be rated by combining their results from all accountability targets into one overall score Information regarding progress towards targets will be reported on School Performance Reports by DoE each year

6 What If We Do Not Meet the Targets?
Schools will be identified based on Comprehensive Need or Targeted Support Comprehensive Support and Improvement Bottom 5% of all Title I Schools Targeted Support for 3 or more consecutive years Targeted Support and Improvement Subgroups perform at or below the bottom 5% of Title I schools Consistently Underperforming subgroups for 2 or more years Schools that did not meet their Progress Targets must develop a plan detailing how they will address the needs of student populations that did not meet their progress targets and other measures of student performance.

Academic Achievement ELA – Met all targets Math – Met all targets College and Career Readiness (Absenteeism) Rate of 13.1% was 1.2% improvement from but above target of 8.4% Student Growth Did not meet State target of 40 for any subgroup

9 Title I Schools Need to complete an Annual School Plan
Parent Involvement Requirement Schools will get an allocation (1% of total grant split between 5 schools) Schools must distribute their Parent Involvement Plan and District Parent Involvement Policy. Must complete a School-Parent Compact “Right to Know” letter to parents; parents have the right to ask schools about a teacher’s qualifications Distribute Language Instruction Letter within 30 days after school starts for children enrolled in a bilingual program All documents will be posted on the district website

10 What We Plan to Accomplish This Year

11 Elementary Schools… Title I funds are providing teachers, students and families with… Materials to support instruction in Math and ELA including hands on mathematics manipulatives and books to grow classroom libraries Training and support for teachers to strengthen instructional strategies Five District Parent Involvement Events on topics related to academic needs as well as building based activities
