3. Fall Arrest
Fall arrest is the form of fall protection which involves the safe stopping of a person who is already falling
Vertical Fall

4. Fall Guarding
General protection that prevents persons from entering a fall hazard area e.g., guard rails

5. Fall Restraint
Fall restraint (personal protection which prevents persons who are in a fall hazard area from falling).

7. ABCD of Fall Arrest A = Anchor B = Body Wear = Full body Harness
C = Connector
D = Deceleration Device = slows the arrest when falling.
E = Emergency Plan & Equipment

8. A = anchor
Must be secured to a fixed structure or structural adaptation.
May be lifeline secured to a building.
Certification & inspection.

9. Body Wear A full Body Harness worn by the worker.
Not all are the same, what suits on may not suit another as with all PPE.
Correct adjustment required.

10. Connector Lanyard Fall arrest block
Must be energy absorbing capacity for fall arrest

11. Deceleration device Huge forces generated in arresting a fall
Energy absorber - limits energy absorbed by the body to SURVIVABLE levels.
Limits forces on anchors such as Horizontal Life Lines which might cause failure of the anchorage
May not be required in fall restraint - depends on fall distance.
