1 Lite n’ Easy Recycling Update
October 2018

2 Changes to date Over the past few years Lite n’ Easy has implemented changes to reduce the amount of plastic used to package our food. We continue to look at ways in the future. Update so far: Dinners already in recyclable containers Reduced the volume of day bags used in breakfast, by only using a day bag for more than one item Reduced the volume of day bags used in lunches Introduced recycling at local Lite n’ Easy production facilities (customers can return plastic day bags and shopping bags with their recyclable esky) Reuse and Recycle customer eskies Recycle thermal optimisers Reduced amount of packaging in the breakfast and lunch menu

3 Food Waste Over 1/3 of all food produced globally goes to waste and this does not even include the excess food consumption. Lite n’ Easy produces to order and does not supply more than you need = the lowest food waste Less food waste = less farm to plate waste Less food waste = less fresh water waste Less food waste = less greenhouse emissions. Interesting fact – if global food waste was a country, it would be the 3rd largest emitter of greenhouse gases Frozen meals are snap frozen to lock in freshness, taste and nutrition but also equal less food waste

4 Lite n’ Easy Environmental Initiatives
We have invested in over 700kW of Solar power generation across the country We have invested in over 2million litres of rainwater tanks across the country We recycle soft plastics, cardboard, metal and eskies at each Lite n’ Easy We have invested in world leading refrigeration equipment to improve efficiency and save energy We have invested in 100% recovery of our food waste through organic recycling back into fertiliser (ie. Pulpmaster at each site. Click on the link to see the equipment.

5 Video Discussion Watch Maryl Ann’s recycling video and discuss:
What happens with the esky when it is no longer suitable to be reused? What items are returned to us in the esky? List the containers that go in the customer’s curb side bin?

7 Future Opportunities Breakfast Lite n’ Easy constantly reviews packaging options for sustainability. Options could include in the future: Bands around meals to hold together instead of plastic shopping bags Different lunch bags More recyclable materials / improved recycling on site Trialling paper egg cups in Queensland Consider menu options that don’t require lot of packaging. Eg Ploughman’s lunch
