2 Advanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeships
What is it? registered non-medical health and care professions experienced clinicians - supported by employer ACP as an occupational role - knowledge, skills and behaviours include clinical practice, management and leadership, education and research structured, supported development route into an advanced practice role, funded by their employer  underpinned by MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice enables clinicians to undertake a Master’s degree part-time while practicing minimum of 20% off-the-job learning from a full-time job role   end-point assessment credits

staffing plans staffing requirements workforce sustainability and career progression opportunities clarity on/make the case based on fulfilment of skills/workforce development needs remuneration of ACP apprentices apprenticeship lead backfill arrangements for ACP apprentices’ ‘off-the-job’ learning collaboration activity with other employers influence STP - new workforce pipeline and approach to workforce development - collaboration, procurement processes, economies of scale discussions with HEIs - service delivery and workforce development needs - content and structure of learning provision (e.g. ‘off-the-job’ learning) and support for apprentices’ learning - staff development

the value and issues is your institution on the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers and Register of End-point Assessment Organisation apprenticeship unit discussions with employers existing ACP provision -workforce need (locally and potentially further afield), particular services and specialties, - range of professions professions (including physiotherapy adaption of existing ACP mapping against the four domains and KSBs in the ACP apprenticeship standard integration of end-point assessment existing modules

developing new modules - relevance to changing workforce needs; identify priority areas implications of the 20-credit end-point assessment the minimum 20% ‘off-the-job’ learning economies of scale and practical issues relating to meeting particular workforce needs value of making collaborative arrangements links with colleagues in your institution in other disciplines (outside health and care) engaged in degree apprenticeships - how you can tackle common issues together and share learning engage with Council of Deans of Health project to support ACP developments

An apprenticeship is a work-focused, structured programme of learning that provides employees with the technical knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to become high performing in the workplace. …are available for a range of occupations and at a range of educational levels, from GCSE up to degree levels including post-graduate …can apply to new employees or existing employees who would benefit from acquiring new knowledge and skills …must be a real job within the organisation and must align to an Institute for Apprentices (DfE) approved Apprenticeship (now a protected title) …must last for a minimum of 12 months with an ‘end point assessment

11 Physiotherapy degree apprenticeship – The CSP’s role
Sharing our expectations to inform development of the apprenticeship standards and assessment plans Acting as a ‘critical friend’, seeking to ensure the quality of the learning experience/outcomes is upheld Promoting awareness, understanding and engagement Developing confidence in the degree apprenticeship as a new route into the profession

CSP position statement on apprenticeships – currently under review, given the pace of developments since December 2016 Direct input to the physiotherapy trailblazer group and assessment sub-group Encouraging member engagement at each key stage Working with AHP colleagues and the HCPC on how we exercise our respective quality assurance and enhancement roles

13 Future developments??? Level 8 consultant apprenticeships – need to clearly articulate difference between ACP and Consultant roles Uptake of Level 7 academic professional – learning & teaching, and research pathways.
