About Abdul Kalam Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaran, Tamilnadu Kalam was a bright and hardworking student in his school He graduated in physics at St. Joseph’s college, Tiruchirapalli in 1954 He studied aerospace engineering in Madras Institute Technology, Chennai His dream of becoming fighter pilot was missed as he missed to qualify for it by one position Joined DRDO in 1960 and later transferred to ISRO in 1969 where was the director of first Satellite Launch Vehicle of India and successfully launched Rohini satellite in 1980 He has contributed significantly in developing ballistic missiles such as Agni & Prithvi He has served as Chief Sceintific advisor to Prime Minister between 1992 & 1999 and during that time Pokran II nuclear tests were conducted In 1998, Kalam along with the cardiologist Dr. Soma Raju developed low cost coronary stent named “Kalam-Raju Stent” and also developed tablet to provide health care for rural India

About Abdul Kalam Kalam served as 11th President of India from 2002 for 5 years He was a visiting professor for leading institutions in India and always connected with students to develop their knowledge in science & social cause On 27 July 2015, he died in Shillong, Megalaya Awards & Honours He has received 7 honorary doctorates from 40 universities across the world Government of India honoured him with Padma Bhushan in 1981 and Padma Vibhusan in 1990 for his contributions to ISRO & DRDO In 1997, he received India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna for his contributions Tamilnadu Government announced his birth day as “Youth Renaissance Day” to remember him & his contributions for the students & India at large
