Galatians 5: 22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.
4
“Patience” in Greek: Hupomone Makrothumia
5
“Hupomone” the act of cheerfully persevering, enduring and bearing up under difficult things or circumstances because of one’s firm hope in a beneficial result.
6
Hebrews 6:12 “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate
those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”
7
35 “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
Hebrews 10: 35-36 35 “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.”
8
Lamentations 3: 22-24 22 Because of the Lord’s great love
we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.”
9
“Makrothumia” to be long-suffering in regards
to dealing with people and yet have forbearance (self-restraint in actions). Unlike hupomone, which is driven by hope. Makrothumia is fueled by mercy.
10
That means God can and desires to help us better extend patience
Makrothumia is the type of patience listed in the “fruit of the Spirit.” That means God can and desires to help us better extend patience to others in our lives… if we’re willing.
11
who could stand? 4 But with You
Psalm 130: 3-4 3 “If You, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4 But with You there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve You.”
12
Matthew 18: 23-35 The Parable of the Unmerciful and Impatient Servant
13
2 Peter 3: 9 & 15 9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promises, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance…” 15 “Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.”
14
1 Timothy 1: 15-16 15 “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners —of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His immense patience as an example for those who would believe in Him and receive eternal life.”
15
Colossians 3: 12-14 12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
16
Jesus Christ showed amazing patience, perseverance, endurance,
and forbearance throughout his time on earth.

10 “… live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way:
Colossians 1: 10-11 10 “… live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience”
