1 Air Treatment School Refrigerated Dryer Training
Presenting. . . Air Treatment School Refrigerated Dryer Training

2 REFRIGERATION THEORY What is Refrigeration?
Refrigeration is the process of moving heat energy from a location where it is not wanted to a location where it does not matter.

3 REFRIGERATION THEORY Heat
Or “heat energy” is the amount or quantity of heat energy something contains. Measured in BTUs. A BTU (British Thermal Unit) is the amount of heat needed to change the temperature of one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit. Ton of Refrigeration = 12,000 BTU/H

4 REFRIGERATION THEORY Cold There is no such thing as cold
There are only different amounts of heat We cannot “generate” cold, We can only “move” heat

5 REFRIGERATION THEORY Heat will only flow from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. Heat transfer is always from hot to cold

6 REFRIGERATION THEORY Types of Heat Sensible:
When heat energy is transferred from one object to another causing a change in temperature. Latent: When heat energy is transferred from one object to another causing a change of state

13 BASIC REFRIGERATION Vapor Compression Refrigeration Cycle Superheat
Subcooling

14 BASIC REFRIGERATION Superheat:
Refers to a VAPOR heated above saturation Subcooling: Refers to a LIQUID cooled below saturation Saturation: When liquid and vapor refrigerant are in the same place at the same time. (100% RH)
