Review Jesus is betrayed and tortured and killed What I accept as true forms the basis for my life. Guides my decisions and paths

Review Truth is fixed and absolute- therefore, we seek to discover it and order our lives around it

…but Sunday’s coming

Peace Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.

Peace The more you understand and are affected by the forgiveness of your sins, the more you will love Jesus - Luke 7:36-50

Peace We do no favors by promoting positive self-esteem outside the grace of a holy God who accepts us on the basis of Jesus’ sacrifice

Peace So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!"

Peace So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in.

Peace Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus' head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen.

Peace Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)

Peace Then the disciples went back to their homes, but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

Peace They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

Peace "Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him."

Peace Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher).

Peace Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”

Peace Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her.

Peace On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"

Peace After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Peace Peace

Peace Because of the crucifixion and resurrection: Peace with God All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath - Eph. 2:3

Peace Because of the crucifixion and resurrection: Peace with God [Jesus] was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ- Romans 4:25-5:1

Peace Proviso: Peace with God is based on his preconditions, not ours

Peace Because of the crucifixion and resurrection: Peace with other believers For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace- Eph.2:14-15

Peace Proviso: Peace with other believers is created by the Spirit, but kept by our effort Humility Humility Unity-orientation Unity-orientation Grace-filled relationships Grace-filled relationships

Peace Because of the crucifixion and resurrection: Peace with self/self- acceptance But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect- 1 Cor. 15:10

Peace Proviso: Peace with self/self- acceptance is contingent upon full disclosure, repentance and humble acceptance of God's grace

Peace Because of the crucifixion and resurrection: Peace of mind Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid - John 14:27

Peace Because of the crucifixion and resurrection: Peace of mind For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace- Romans 8:6

Peace Proviso: Peace of mind is found in looking upward, not inward

Peace Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."

Peace The Greyhounds…

Peace Brought in to be sent Never alone Never alone Never without purpose Never without purpose

Peace For my next trick…I'll forgive your sins (if you're nice to me!)

Peace If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." The apostles will announce and witness to, not create, forgiveness

Peace Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!"

Peace But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it."

Peace A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"

Peace Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."

Peace Jesus knows what Thomas needs in order to believe- and is willing to give it, if Thomas will only look

Peace Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

Peace Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name - John 20

Peace Peace: With God? With God? With other believers? With other believers? Of mind? Of mind? With self? With self?
