2 Do you remember what the word “subject” means?

3 Every sentence has two main parts.
Predicate Subject The predicate tells what the subject is, has, or does. The subject tells whom or what the sentence is about. Example subject Painters create murals. predicate

4 How can you tell if a subject and a verb match?
Subject-verb agreement means that the SUBJECT of a sentence and the VERB of a sentence match. How can you tell if a subject and a verb match? Remember, a subject and verb have to match in number. * Copy the information in red.

5 Numbers in the English Language
Plural means “more than one.” Singular means “one.” A singular subject names one person, place, or thing. A plural subject names more than one person, place, or thing. Examples: the man, the story, she Examples: The men, the stories, We A singular subject needs a singular verb. 7 Grammar Rule If a verb is singular you add an “s” at the end.
If a verb is plural you DO NOT add an “s” at the end.

8 Example #1 DIRECTIONS: Read the sentences carefully. For each item, circle the correct form of the verb. The boys walk/walks to school every morning. They take/takes the bus home. They are/is seventh graders. Their teacher is/are very strict. She give/gives them homework every day.
