Take some time to decide if it is necessary to do this job energized. Could the job be done de-energized and grounded? What would be the impact? Would it be safer?

4 Work Procedures Involved Hazards associated with the job
Special Precautions Energy Source Controls Personal Protective Equipment Be sure to record your emergency location and post in a location everyone on the crew knows. Have your PPE and First Aid kit available Be sure your AED is accessible. A safe job begins with a thorough inspection of… Tools Be certain all of your tools are in good shape. Equipment Make sure your trucks are all in working order take time to preflight your equipment and insure there are no surprise. Line/Structure Look over the line and structure. Are there any potential hazards? (Broken insulators, damaged wire, clearances over roads or from trees?) Be aware of your work area, be sure to cover anything you can reach touch or fall into. And anything that can reach touch or fall into you! Discuss all PPE needed for the job and wear your PPE. Be sure to inspect your equipment prior to use. Identify all voltages you are exposed to. Be sure to have all of your Arc-Flash protective gear on. Identify a dedicated observer Working in traffic exposes you to hazards that are difficult to control. Give the vehicles plenty of time to see and avoid you! Follow the manual of traffic control for your area. Slips trips and falls are some of the most common injuries, look for hazards that could cause this. Be sure to inspect and wear your fall arrest harness. This will get the Team involved, creating communication channels to open!

5 Be sure to set the protective device to single shot
Be sure to set the protective device to single shot. Check the adjacent spans for hazards. Be sure you have completed your briefing.

6 Bond the truck to the system neutral.

7 Install cover-up to the neutral.

8 Untie and lower the neutral
Untie and lower the neutral. Be sure it is not in direct uninsulated contact with the pole.

9 .Cover the phase wire completely

10 . Frame the pole for the new A5 dead end. Continue to wear you gloves and sleeves since this is still a “rubber gloving” job.

11 . Move the neutral up and rest it on the tap neutral’s eyebolt. If you forget to do this you will not be able to raise it after stringing the tap.

13 . Bring the tap wire up. Remember it is safest to sag this wire to the de-energized end so the tails are not flopping around near the primary line.

14 Prior to sagging the line install protective grounds
.Prior to sagging the line install protective grounds. Begin by connecting to the primary line neutral.

15 . Connect to the tap neutral next.

16 . Now ground the tap phase wire.

17 . Sag the wire from the de-energized end.

18 .Install the tap jumper.

19 . Install the primary line saddle.

20 . Remove the primary line cover-up.

21 .Remove the primary line neutral cover-up.

22 .Raise and retie the primary line neutral and reconnect the ground wire.

23 . Install the new taps neutral jumper.

24 . With a stick, remove the new taps ground.

25 . Contuniue and remove all of the protective ground jumpers.

26 .Insure all personel are clear and you are ready to energize the new tap.

27 .With a hot stick, energize the new tap.

30 . Remove the truck bond.

31 . The job is completed.
