1 World War Two Year 4 Curriculum Map Spring 2019 Books that we will be
using to support our learning: World War Two Year 4 Curriculum Map Blitz Cat by Robert Westall Spring 2019 Anne Frank by Josephine Poole & Angela Barrett Key facts: WW2 lasted from 1939 – 1945 WW2 began when German troops invaded Poland on 1st September 1939. Prime Ministers during WW2 were Neville Chamberlain, then Winston Churchill. Adolf Hitler lead the German Nazi Party. War in Europe ended on May 8th 1945 (VE Day).

can you contact Mrs Barker. We will be using maps to locate the countries involved in WW2 and to identify key locations (geographical knowledge). We will be building a timeline of key events in the war (historical knowledge). In art and D&T we will be creating a Blitz landscape and designing propaganda posters. We hope to ‘Dig for Victory’ during Forest School, to grow our own food and we will attempt to re-create some of the wartime ration recipes. We will also be learning how to knit. We will discover about the life and writings of Anne Frank, through studying the picture book ‘Anne Frank’ by Josephine Poole & Angela Barrett. We will learn about wartime life in England, considering what it would have been like to be evacuated as a child. We will also focus on some of the events that took place in our local area, including the crash of a US Bomber. We hope to take advantage of our link with Mayfair Lodge to arrange for the children to meet with residents who were alive during the war years. We may even be able to arrange to re-enact a VE day party with them? In addition to our topic work, we will learn about the Christian religion in the weeks leading up to Easter. In Science, we will be learning about light and shadows, including investigating how mirrors work and creating shadow puppet theatres. Plus in ICT, we will be programming with Flowol and using spreadsheets.
