5. HE DID EMPTY HIMSELF, BUT OF WHAT?
KJV – “…thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant…”
NRSV – “did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a slave…”

NLT – “…He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave…”

EMPTIED HIMSELF; MADE HIMSELF OF NO REPUTATION
“made himself as nothing”
A self-renunciation, a self-denial of what He had before coming
Did not keep clinging to His heavenly position and privileges

8. WHAT DID HE TAKE UPON HIMSELF WHEN HE EMPTIED HIMSELF?
“the form of a bondservant”
