• Rosinella is trying to get Lucia together with a nice Italian boy. • Lucia, in spite of her age, has to ask permission to go to the wedding. Develops characters and relationships • Hughie and Lucia – both now grown-up – are getting closer. • Rosinella and Massimo disagree over Lucia going to the wedding. • Lucia tells Rosinella that she feels she always has to do what Rosinella wants. That her life is managed for her. Rosinella believes that the bond between Italian families is stronger than anyone else. ‘And the way they love their families. Nobody loves their families like the Italians.’ (2,2) • Racial prejudice. – Rosinella goes on about how hard working Italian men are. ‘Because they’re prepared to WORK, that’s why. I don’t know anybody works so hard as the Italian men. (2,2) – She doesn’t notice how very hard Hughie works – for her and Massimo. – She is shocked that Hughie has the ‘cheek’ to ask Lucia to go to the wedding with him. ‘The cheek of him!’ ‘Who does he think he is, anyway?’(2,2)
