2 What is Character? Character: the way in which you think, feel, and act. A person is said to have good character when they have certain qualities: Trustworthiness Respect Responsibility Fairness Caring Citizenship

3 Trustworthiness: Respect:
A trustworthy person is: Reliable and honest Someone you can count on When you show regard for your health and the health of other people. Respectful listening and speaking are important communication skills Respectful person also realizes that others have the right to view the situation or idea differently

4 Responsibility: Fairness:
Being accountable for your actions: Willing to step forward Doing what you’re responsible for. Treating everyone equally. Open-minded Does not favor one person over another

5 Caring: Citizenship: Showing understanding and compassion toward others: Treats others with kindness and generosity Listen to others Trying to help when possible Offer support and encouragement to others Consists of all responsibilities and privileges of being a citizen. Good citizenship means obeying rules, and laws Doing what you can to help your school, community, and country Encouraging others to get involved. Protecting the environment Related to the skill of Advocacy: taking action in support of a cause.

6 Developing your character
Character must be learned when you’re young. Developed through your life Can be learned from your parents, religious leaders, and others Can be learned from life experiences Learn about qualities of good character from watching people around you. They can have positive and negative influences on you. May be role models: people who inspire you to act or think in a certain way Ex. parents, grandparents, older siblings.
