1 Many thanks for your continued support.
HOMEWORK At Primrose Hill we understand that there are many differing views about homework, and pride ourselves on listening to your views. We also try to balance this with ensuring that not only do our pupils make the best progress possible but spend time discussing their learning with you, enjoy discovering, and that we all encourage them to have an appetite and curiosity for learning about the world in which we live. This is a vital life skill. Homework is seen as one way of supporting and fostering this life-long learning and connecting families with the learning of their children. Over the summer we have developed what we believe to be an inspiring and creative new way forward for sharing this learning. In Terms 1, 3 and 5 we will be setting topic homework that can be done at your convenience across the term. This means that tasks can be done at times and days that suit your child, as we recognise that many children attend a wide range of clubs and these are also very valuable. Each term a total number of points will be set. There are many different tasks worth differing amounts of ‘Curiosity’ points, so for example for a total of 10 points, 10 activities could be completed worth 1 point each or 3 activities worth 3 points and one worth 1 point. Some tasks may require a photo, a parent to sign to say that a website has been investigated or some facts noted down. At the end of these terms pupils will bring in the work they have completed and families will be invited in to view the homework, with certificates awarded with the first event on Wednesday 19th October from 2.30pm. We understand that it may be difficult for some people to access materials and we are more than happy to help - just come and ask the teachers or teaching assistants. In Terms 2, 4 and 6 Reading homework will be set in a similar structure. We hope you enjoy the flexibility that this new approach offers and we welcome feedback. This new initiative has been discussed with the Governors who are also very excited about the opportunities that this will bring. The children will be fully briefed on this and how to approach it, and please feel free to come and discuss it with teachers. Spellings and regular reading will still be set and on a Friday there will be Maths homework for some classes. Please see your child’s class teacher if you have any questions about this. Many thanks for your continued support.
