2. A definition of speed
The speed of an object is how fast or slow it's moving. You can calculate speed using the equation 'speed = distance/time'.

This equation shows the relationship between speed, distance and time.
speed (metres per second, m/s) = distance (metre, m) / time (seconds, s)
Example:
A person runs 200m in 20s
speed = distance/time
speed = 200m/20s
speed = 10m/s

How you could do this in your head:
You take the kilometre number, 144, and halve it; 72. Then take a quarter of your half, 18, and just add the two together = 90. That’s your answer in miles
