1 Dante’s Inferno: Circle 8 - FRAUD

2 Learning Targets I will better understand the definition of fraud.
I will learn about the different levels of fraud. I will understand which level is more “evil” than the others according to Dante.

3 What is Fraud? The wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

4 Tasks: In groups of three or four, read each statement/scenario and decide if it is an example of fraud. Classify/Sort the statements/scenarios into categories that represent the different phases of fraud. Label or name each of your categories and be prepared to share your reasons.

5 What is Fraud? The wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

6 Now: Rank your categories from most severe to least severe.
Think of a ladder – how much will hurt if you fall from the bottom step vs. the top step?

7 Let’s Read Canto XVIII The Eighth Circle, called Malebolge (“Evil Pouches”) with its Ten Pouches, where ordinary fraud is punished. The First Pouch, with Panders and Seducers scourged by horned demons. The Second Pouch, with Flatterers immersed in excrement.
