3. SELECTING SUITABLE SPECIES The selection of species suitable for a particular site is one of the essential factors in planting. Bac Lieu province has low elevation sites and daily inundation  suitable to many mangrove species such as Avicennia marina. (Avicennia marina (Forsk.) Vierh) in Bac Lieu province coastal

4. DESIGNING AND BUILDING A NURSERY The nursery can be divided into several parts as described below: (i) A storage area. (ii) A material preparation area; (iii) Seedbeds; (iv) Irrigation system. For example: Design a nursery used to produce seedlings in the soil-mixed containers.

5. PRODUCING SEEDLINGS Collecting fruits for seedling propagation:  In Mekong delta, Avicennia marina flowers from March to May and its fruits ripen from June to July. The best time for collecting fruits is in June.  Good fruits are undamaged and free of pestilent insect damage.  Fruits can also be collected from the ground.  Ripened fruit is yellowish

7. PRODUCING SEEDLINGS Criteria for the readiness of seedlings for field planting: - Age: 12 – 18 months old; - Height: 80 - 100cm and bearing; - term: upright with profuse root system - Healthy with no symptoms of disease or insect pests.

8. PLANTING AVICENNIA MARINA SEEDLINGS Planting distance:  Density of about 3.300 trees/ha (about 1.5 m between trees and 2 m between rows). Planting season:  The planting season is during the early rainy season from April to May. Planting techniques:  Before planting, make a hole 40x40x40 cm in size.  Tear the bag cover.  Carefully place the seedling with the bag straight into the hole, filling the hole with soil and pressing it in to keep the seedlings firm and erect. REDUCED WAVE FENCE SOLUTION From 2008 to 2016 Institute of Ecology and Works protection (WIP) in the testing and researching progress has been found out new technology to make reduced wave fence by bamboo pillar and widely applied in many provinces:  North of Vietnam: Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa…  South of Vietnam: Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang.  Length bamboo fence total: 45 kilometers  Mangrove forest planted area: 400 hectares
