1 Bonding & Molecular Structure
Day 2 - C.3.4 Write chemical formulas for ionic compounds and covalent compounds given their names and vice versa.

2 Binary Nomenclature 3 Forms to Learn: Binary Covalent Nomenclature
Binary Ionic Nomenclature Binary Ionic Transition Metal Nomenclature (BIT Metal Nomenclature in notes; Classically: Stock Convention)

3 Covalent Valences are all Negative
All nonmetals are negatively charged; SO… these compounds DO NOT need to be balanced… Prefixes are used instead: 1 = mono 2 = di 3 = tri 4 = tetra 5 = penta 6 = hexa 7 = hepta 8 = octa 9 = nona 10 = deca

4 Rules First Element is given the entire element name.
Second Element is given an –ide suffix. The prefix MONO- is NEVER on the first word. 

5 Naming Binary Covalent Compounds
ONE nonmetal atom plus ONE nonmetal atom.
