1 Editorial Writing

2 Editorials Appear on the newspaper’s editorial page. The reader should find ideas about the things reported elsewhere in the paper. An editorial is an article that states the newspaper’s ideas on an issue. These ideas are presented as opinion.

3 The purpose of editorials
inform readers, mold opinion move people to action.

4 An editorial should be organized into four steps:
State the subject and your position on the subject in the introduction. 2. Prove your position with supporting details. 3. Draw a conclusion.

5 S P E C S State the problem or situation. State your position.
Give evidence to support your position. C Refute the position of the other side in the conclusion. S Offer a possible solution to the problem.

6 Remember… Avoid phrases such as “I think” or “in my opinion” in an editorial. Don’t leave any doubt in your reader’s mind about the stance taken in the editorial.
