4 VOCABULARY Base- the number that is going to be raised to a power.
Exponent- The exponent of a number says how many times to use that number in a multiplication. It is written as a small number to the right and above the base number. BaseExponent

5 How do exponents work? EXPONENTS ARE REPEATED MULTIPLICATION . Exponents represent how many times a base number is multiplied by itself.

6 STEPS TO SOLVE EXPONENTS:
Step 1: Write the base number. Step 2: Multiply it the same number of times as thee exponent. Step 3: Multiply from left to right.

7 RULES: Any number (except 0) raised to the power 0 is 1.
Any number raised to the first power is itself. If a number is raised to the second power, we say squared. If a number is raised to the third power, we say cubed.

8 Exponential form- is a way of expressing a standard number using a base and exponent
Expanded form- express in repeated multiplication or addition Standard form- the “normal” way we see numbers
