Water that Kills 25,000,000 people die of diseases from bad water. Dysentery Typhoid Cholera Dysentery is a disorder of the digestive system that results in severe diarrhea containing mucus or blood in the feces. If left untreated, dysentery can and usually will be fatal. Dysentery was the most common disease during the American Civil War, spread especially by contaminated water. This was before health was realized to be associated with hygiene. Typhoid fever is characterized by a sustained fever as high as 104 °F, profuse sweating, gastroenteritis, and nonbloody diarrhea.
