2 Kansas Education Accreditation System (KESA)
Systems for Accreditation Review Accreditation Review Council (ARC) Meeting New Members Rubrics (5 R’s) Review 8 public and 14 private systems up for accreditation 2A. ARC will meet on April to review public systems and will come back in May and June for the private system reviews. 2B. We may be looking for additional members next year because of some resignations and retirements. Information will be coming out next school year. 3. The accreditation Advisory Council along with some systems with redesign project schools have been coming together to align the 5 R’s (really 4 R’s) with the Redesign Principals. This work is expected to be completed in draft for by this summer. Presentations about this work will be available at the Impact Institutes and possibly at the KSDE Annual Conference.

3 Kansas Education Accreditation System (KESA)
Chair and System Training Feedback KESA Trainings Chair Trainings Goal Writing Report Writing Using Data for Continuous Improvement Role of Schools and Teachers in KESA Evaluations were positive with 100% requesting yearly trainings at this point in time. Provided Trainings at all service centers and we had over 100 chairs retrained with a few new chair possibilities. 5A. Chair training will continue as provided this year, adding information on any new expectations. Samples used for training will be updated with information from reports received this year. 5B. The surveys reflected an interest in more in-depth training on writing goals. We are currently thinking about doing the data training in the morning with the goal writing in the afternoon in order to use the data from the morning training for writing goals. We are also contemplating just asking systems who want help with their goals to come for a support session. These are things we are currently processing as ideas. 5C. The surveys reflected an interest in more in-depth training on Report Writing and ARC expectations of these reports. We will know how this training will be developed after the reviews this year of systems. 5D. This was another high request from our surveys. We are working collaboratively with our Assessment and Accountability staff to help with this training. 6. We are still hearing a lot of confusion as to the role or schools and teachers in the KESA process, so we hope to do some specific training for schools which can include principals, teachers, and district administrators as a team to demonstrate and talk about the alignment of these entities in the KESA Process.

4 Kansas Education Accreditation System (KESA)
KESA Application Reminders Switching Chairs KESA Contact Survey on Visit Date AdvancED Every Institution Every Year (EIEY) Report General Information We had to put a hold on the updates we were doing to the KESA Application, but beginning this month we are full swing on some enhancements. (Talk about a few of them) 8A. If you are or have switch your chair for this year please remember to go back into the KESA Application to the Initial Report question 2 and update the information. We use that information to send notices out to the field. 8B. The same hold true with the KESA Contact. Please go back into the report and make the change. 8C. There are still a few systems that have not provided us with their visit data. If you are one of those systems please go to the survey and provide us with that information. If you are working with the AdvancED process, public or private systems, please go in and list your system and indicate AdvancED in the Visit Date column. 8D. If you are a system using AdvancED as your process for improvement, please be sure that you submit to Nancy Bolz and cc: Jeannette Nobo your EIEY report. We are currently following up with those systems that have not yet submitted that report. And, more importantly, if you are coming up for accreditation this year, your paperwork for the ARC is incomplete without that information. 9. If your documentation is incomplete, you will be getting a call from one of the KESA staff members. We are diligently calling on this. Also, we are working on reviewing about 20% of the systems to look over the quality of the reports and documentation and help us in making decisions about training needs.
