energy BY. LEAH LAWSON science 4.PERIOD

2 PHYSICAL CHANGE Physical change- occur when matter changes it’s property but not it’s chemical nature physical property changes could include a change in : texture shape size color change of state volume mass weight and density.

3 Chemical change Chemical change- Are changes that matter undergoes when it becomes new or different matter. A new substance is formed to identify a chemical change. Look for signs such as; color change, odor, bubbling, fizzing, light production, smoke and presence of heat. A chemical change occurs when fireworks are used. Fireworks are made of metals such as magnesium and copper these change chemically as they light up the sky.

4 Nuclear energy Nuclear energy- energy stored in and released from the nucleus of an atom.

5 Electric energy Electric Energy- energy carried by an electric current.

6 sound Sound-energy carried by sound waves.

7 SEISMIC ENERGY SEISNIC ENERGY- the energy transferred by waves moving through the ground.

8 Joules energy Joules energy- the same units as wonk.

9 Kinetic energy Kinetic energy =1/2 x mass x speed²

10 3 types of heat transfer? Radiation conduction convection

11 energy Energy example

12 Energy, example Energy- the ability to cause change Example- body converts chemical energy stored in food into energy of motion.

13 Potential energy Energy objects

14 objects Objects-have the potential to move because of their location.

15 kinetic energy Kinetic energy- the energy an object has due to it’s motion any object that’s moving has kinetic energy.

16 Energy on earth Not all of the sum’s energy reaches the earth’s surface. 20% of the sun’s energy is ABSORBED by gases and particles in the atmosphere. ozone , oxygen and water vapor absorb ultraviolet. Water and carbon dioxide coz absorbs infrared light.

17 What is thermal energy thermal?
Heat will continue to move until both substances are the same temperature

18 Law of conservation of energy
Energy cannot be created or destroyed it’s only transformed from one another.

19 Energy transformation
Any change of energy from one form to another.

20 Kinetic energy/conduction
Motion of an object and depends on object’s mass. Transfer of kinetic energy from one molecule to another.(direct contact)

21 Radiation/convection
Energy that travels by waves in all directions from its source. Transfers thermal energy by the movement of molecules from one place to another in a gas or liquid.

22 summary Heat energy always travels from a hotter substance to a colder substance for example when we took a hot pot the heat energy transfers from the hot pot to our hand which is cold. This is why it burns our hand. Temperature tells us how hot or cold a substance is we use a thermometer to measure the temperature of a substance. Heat energy is very useful to all living being plants use light and heat energy of the san to grow and make food. Animals eat these plants.
