4 The Problem with Pride James 4:1-4
Self centered not God centered (v1 - 3) Causes stress and strife in our lives (v2) Prevents the flow of Gods blessing in our lives (3) Puts us in enmity with God (v4)

5 The Problem with Pride St. Augustine ( A.D.) wrote, "'Pride is the commencement of all sin'6 because it was this which overthrew the devil, from whom arose the origin of sin; and afterwards, when his malice and envy pursued man, who was yet standing in his uprightness, it subverted him in the same way in which he himself fell. For the serpent, in fact, only sought for the door of pride whereby to enter when he said, 'Ye shall be as gods.'"7

6 What is God’s take on Pride
James 4:4 - 6 Considers it idolatry (v4) Will not tolerate it (v5) Will actively resist the proud (v6)

7 Grace to the Humble James 4:6 But God!
He covers our pride with his Grace (v6) Ro 5:20 The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, It isn’t as if our humility earns the grace of God. Humility merely puts us in a position to receive the gift He freely gives. (David Guzik)

8 Those who are humble Submit to God (v7) Resist the devil (v7)
Draw near to God (v8) Cleanse their hands and purify their hearts (v8)
