Sarcasm falls under “verbal irony.”
Sometimes involves playing with double meanings.
Example:
“Math class was thrilling today.”

3. Situational Irony
When the last thing one might expect to happen actually does happen
Involves a “reversal”
Examples:
Dentist/Dermatologist
Gas station robbers

4. Dramatic Irony
When the audience is aware of something that the characters are not.
Creates suspense/tension
Examples:
Soap operas
Romeo and Juliet suicide
