7 Why Part Time? It’s less expensive for employers.
They do not have to provide benefits. Part time workers generally make less money than fulltime workers. They can use part time workers more flexibly, and can cut back on part time hours if the extra workers are not needed.

These problems drive up costs lead to more expensive healthcare and insurance. The impact leads to more government action, and regulation, because officials are concerned.

12 Affordable Care Act Requires individuals to buy insurance or pay a penalty. Requires states to create and offer state health insurance. Increases Medicaid’s coverage. Very large and expensive solution.

13 Solutions for Companies
Create Awareness: Companies need to be made aware of the effects of part time work. Many corporations use part time people to save money, but part time work may be costing them money. Complying to employee related regulation is a painful and expensive process for companies. Part time workers are more likely to less motivated and counterproductive.

14 Legislative and Administrative Solutions
Create tax incentives for companies to use more full time workers. Penalize companies that do not offer insurance to part time employees.

15 What can you do? Do business with companies that treat their workers fairly. Be aware of the policies and practices of companies that you do business with. Be kind to others, there is no better way to effect someone than to directly have positive interactions with them. Remember the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them do to you.
