2 MEASURING INTELLIGENCE
Most conventional intelligence tests assess abilities dependent on literacy and numeracy They are designed to be taken individually The 3 tests that we study are; Binet’s Test of Intelligence Stanford-Binet Test of Intelligence Wechsler’s Tests of Intelligence

1. BINET’S TEST OF INTELLIGENCE Specifically designed for use with schoolchildren Based on the assumption that intelligence is age-related Items arranged in increasing level of difficulty Final result was a number called ‘mental age’ (eg. 3 years, 6 months) ‘Mental age’ should be the same as ‘chronological age’ TASKS NUMBER OF ITEMS CORRECT MENTAL AGE Pointing to nose, mouth Repeating two digits Identifying objects 8 3 years, 6 months

2. STANFORD-BINET TEST OF INTELLIGENCE Lewis Terman revised Binet’s test for an American audience The latest revision was done in 2003 (SB-5) 2years - 85+years Four cognitive abilities assessed; Fluid Reasoning Knowledge Quantitative Reasoning Visual-Spatial Processing Working Memory

3. WECHSLER’S TESTS OF INTELLIGENCE WAIS-IV = Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale WISC-IV = Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children WPPSI-III = Wechsler Preschool & Primary School 4 Categories: Verbal Comprehension Perpetual Reasoning Verbal Memory Processing Speed
