Inside each envelope are building blocks of the human body.
Organize the pictures from simplest to most complex (not smallest to largest).
Discuss WHY you organized them in this way.

5. Atom Atoms are the basic building blocks of all matter.
What do we already know about atoms?
Hint: protons, electrons, neutrons

6. Cells
Cells are the basic units of structure and function within all living things.  
They are made up of
atoms and molecules.
Different types of
cells serve different
purposes.

7. Tissues Tissues are specialized groups of cells that work together.
Tissues perform jobs such as transporting materials or covering parts of the body. An example of a tissue would be muscle tissue.

8. Organs
An organ is a group of two or more different types of tissue that work together to perform a specific function.
What are some organs of animals?
What are some organs of plants?

9. Organ System Organs work together to form an organ system.
Can you name this organ system?
Brainstorm other organ systems.

10. Human Body
Organ systems work together to make a living organism – YOU!!!

12. Think about it!
Take a minute and discuss with your shoulder partner what would happen we had no organ systems (i.e. the circulatory system that we discussed earlier)??
