This activity is to better your knowledge about Hurricanes and how to plot their paths. This assignment is about learning things you never knew so have fun and create the best presentation that you can. Next Page

This activity will help you learn to track hurricanes. Using latitude and longitude you will be graphing a hurricanes path. Then creating a presentation about your hurricane. Next Page

3 Tasks Go to… Teacher Page Introduction Tasks Processes Resources Evaluation Throughout the next few days you will be researching a hurricane in the past and getting vital information to help you plot its location and path. To complete this activity you must know about the coordinate plane because it will be very important while plotting your hurricane. At the end of the activity you will be presenting your finished graph to the class as well as information about the hurricane you chose (PowerPoint presentations as well as Boards are acceptable for presenting) The presentation part of the assignment will not be an in class assignment, you must do that outside of class. 4 Processes Day 1: Go online and go to this website Interactive Storm Tracker and find a hurricane that you would like to do more research on and start researching things that you think are important. Day 2: Go to this website Weather Underground and find your hurricane and find its latitude and longitude path. (Pick 5 latitude and 5 longitude points) Then plot those into the worksheet. Day 3: Take your worksheet and plot the latitude and longitude lines into the map and connect them to display your hurricanes path. After completing this you may finish up any work you need to in order to be prepared for your presentation the next day. 5 Resources Interactive Storm Tracker: This site will allow you to look up any hurricane that you want. Also you can watch a hurricanes path. Weather Underground: This site allows you to see certain things about certain hurricanes like the speed of the hurricane, the latitude distance, and the longitude distance. 6 Evaluation The plotted map and the finished worksheet will be separate grades and will be worth 25 points each. You will be graded on the accuracy of the worksheet to the map. The Presentation will be worth 50 points and will be graded using the rubric below.
