2 Lab Safety Rules FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS
NEVER EAT OR DRINK IN LAB…EVER!! NO PHONES UNLESS INSTRUCTED NO HORSEPLAYING NEVER PERFORM UNAUTHORIZED EXPERIMENTS Read all instructions BEFORE you begin lab.

If your hair is past your shoulders…TIE IT UP No sitting in lab

Tell Ms. Fleming FIRST Listen to cleanup instructions If you spill on yourself… If you break something…

5 Lab Safety Rules READ LABELS CAREFULLY BEFORE GETTING CHEMICALS
Do not take reagent bottles from set up area. Do not put chemicals BACK in reagent bottles. Do not take more of the chemicals than suggested in the procedure. Dispose of all chemicals properly, if unsure ASK WHERE THEY GO!!

6 Lab Safety Rules WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE YOU LEAVE LAB…ALWAYS!!!
DO NOT USE SOAP ON LAB EQUIPMENT, instead use the equipment detergent supplied by Ms. Fleming Know where the lab safety equipment is stored in the room, and how to use them if needed.

7 Lab Safety Rules Report ANY and ALL accidents IMMEDIATELY!!
NEVER LEAVE A BUNSEN BURNER UNATTENDED Let me know ASAP if you are colorblind!! HOT equipment and COOL equipment look the same, BE CAREFUL!!

8 Lab Safety Rules When heating substances in a test tube, point the tube away from EVERYONE!! Turn the back of your hand to equipment when testing if it is HOT!! Waft chemicals toward you to smell them, DO NOT SNIFF!

9 Lab Safety Rules When putting away equipment, you should rinse them and… Test tubes should be placed on the drying rack Flasks should be placed on the drying rack Beakers should be DRIED AND PUT IN THE CABINET Graduated cylinders should be put in the cabinet Other equipment should be DRIED AND PUT IN THEIR CORRECT PLACE If you are unsure where something goes…ask!
