1 Projectile Motion Chapter

2 Projectile Objects that follow a curved path near the surface of Earth
Examples: cannonball shot from cannon Object rolling off edge of table

3 Horizontal Motion of Projectile
Same as motion of object along level surface When you ignore friction, object moves at a constant velocity Object moves equal distances in equal time intervals

4 Vertical Motion of Projectile
Same as free falling object Acceleration= gravity Speed changes by 10 m/s each second Distance an object falls each second still d=1/2gt2

5 The horizontal and vertical components of motion of a projectile are completely independent.

6 Upward Launched Projectiles
Horizontal component is constant Vertical component changes by 10 m/s due to gravity Example Sheet…

7 Practice Problem: A boy stands on a 5 m tower and throws the ball
Practice Problem: A boy stands on a 5 m tower and throws the ball. The ball travels 20 m before hitting the ground. At what speed was the ball thrown?

8 Satellites Projectile traveling fast enough to fall around Earth rather than into it Speed of 3-8 km/s.
