2. The purpose of this lab was to use electrolysis to break down a compound.

Hypothesis

4. Materials 2 Test tubes Electrode Stand Sodium Sulfate Lab Scoop
Plastic Spoon
Wooden Splint
Plastic Container
Battery
Wire connectors
Lighter/Matches
Water
Materials

5. Procedure Place electrode stand in the plastic container.
Add water to the container.
Add two scoops of sodium sulfate to the water.
Stir the solution with plastic spoon.
Submerge one of the test tubes in the container of sodium sulfate.
Place the tube over one of the electrodes, making sure the open end is below the liquid.
Repeat steps 5-6 for the second tube.
Connect the wires to the battery. Red on “+”; Black on “-”.

With open end down place the splint at the mouth of the tube. Look and listen. 12. Record results in Table Repeat steps for second test tube using a glowing splint.
