2 The Crime Scene A crime scene is a location where a crime took place.
A crime is simply an unlawful act.

3 Crime Scenes Crime scenes may or may not be where the crime was committed. There are different levels and types of crime scenes.

4 Protecting the Scene A perimeter is taped off with barricade tape in order to keep only those necessary on site. This is done to preserve evidence of the crime.

5 Chain of Evidence It is important that any and all evidence is documented. Where is was collected. Who had custody of the evidence.

6 How to Document On the bag, there is a list for each person to sign off on as to who has taken custody.

7 Documentation All evidence must Be documented.
No evidence may be entered after the scene has been released.
