2. Step One: Write the element’s symbol with its ion charge.

3. Step Two: Find puzzle pieces that match the ion charge.

4. Step Three:
Start with the metal (positive ions) pieces, and match up non-metal (negative ions) pieces until there are no empty spaces.
Sometimes you may need more than one positive ion piece

5. Step Four:
Write on the Puzzle piece what the element symbol and ion charge is.
Ex: Calcium chloride.

6. Step Five:
Count up the number of each element, and write the ionic compound formula.
