Topic Sentence Supporting Details Good Ending

2 Arranging Your Paragraph
Time and Order In a paragraph that tells how something happens, the steps should be given in time order. Use words like first, next, then, after and finally or last. Order of Importance In a paragraph that tells why something happens, the reasons or facts should be given in order of importance.

3 Reasons and Facts Each supporting sentence gives a reason or fact that explains about the topic. Reasons ~ Something you say to explain or justify your thoughts. Facts ~ A true statement that supports your thoughts.

4 Manheim is a great place to go to elementary school.
Topic Sentence The first sentence in a paragraph gives a statement of what will be explained. Manheim is a great place to go to elementary school.

5 The teachers at Manheim are friendly and helpful.
Supporting Sentence 1 The second sentence in a paragraph gives a reason or fact about the topic sentence. The teachers at Manheim are friendly and helpful.

6 Going to school at Manheim is like learning with your family.
Supporting Sentence 2 The third sentence in a paragraph gives another reason or fact about the topic sentence. Going to school at Manheim is like learning with your family.

7 Our school is out in the country, where it is quiet and peaceful.
Supporting Sentence 3 The fourth sentence in a paragraph gives another reason or fact about the topic sentence. Our school is out in the country, where it is quiet and peaceful.

8 Everyone that goes to school at Manheim loves it!
Ending Sentence The last sentence in a paragraph tells more about the topic sentence. The ending sentence can say the same thing as the topic, but in a different way. Everyone that goes to school at Manheim loves it!

9 Putting It All Together
Organize your sentences in this way: Topic Sentence Supporting Detail 1 Supporting Detail 2 Supporting Detail 3 Ending Sentence Put two fingers down and indent the first line only. All the other lines should start close to the red line on the left.

10 Indent The Finished Product Manheim is a great place to go to elementary school. The teachers at Manheim are friendly and helpful. Going to school at Manheim is like learning with your family. Our school is out in the country, where it is quiet and peaceful. Everyone that goes to school at Manheim loves it!
