2 Why Have Goals Goals help give direction to your behavior and a pattern to your decisions. Help measure success Help evaluate how far you are and how far you need to go

4 Goals and Self-Esteem Just having goals won’t make you reach them.
Need to put thought and effort into achieving the goal. Setting a goal means making a promise to yourself that you will work to reach it. Work involves both planning and following through with the plan.

5 Goals and Self-Esteem Self-Esteem- confidence in yourself
Meeting goals has a positive effect on self-esteem. Gives confidence to try and reach new goals.

6 Types of Goals Long-term Goals- a goal that you plan to reach over an extended period of time Take weeks, months or even years to complete. Usually have more meaning in your life Examples:

7 Types of Goals Short-term Goals- goal that you can reach right away.
Setting a series of short term goals helps achieve long term goals. Examples:

8 Action Plans Action Plan- a series of steps for reaching your goal
Creating an action plan is the 1st step to take after deciding on a goal. Action plans help Manage time Organize efforts Achieve results

Step 1: Decide on your goal and write it down. Step 2: List the steps you will take to reach your goal.

Step 3: Identify sources of help and support Step 4: Set a specific time period to reach your goal.

11 Creating an Action Plan
Step 5: Set up checkpoints to see how well you are doing. Step 6: Reward yourself after you have achieved your goal.
