5 Syllabus: Students need to be able to:
Know about the different types of Crime with examples Discuss possible causes of Crime Know the Aims of Punishment Evaluate the types of punishment available and their appropriateness for different crimes / people. Discuss arguments for and against Capital Punishment Explain Religious Attitudes to the Law & Crime Explain Religious concepts of right and wrong, conscience, duty and responsibility.

6 The Law Brainstorm with your partner for 90 seconds why we have laws Read Left hand column page 49 and define into your books the following terms and where possible give examples: Indictable offence Non-Indictable offence Bye-Law Parliamentary Law

7 The Law: Underneath your class wall of crimes copy the definitions of the different types of crime into your book. Colour code the examples above. If any have no examples add some

8 Types of Crime: Crime: Sin: An action that breaks the law.
Against the person (Assault) Against property (Fraud, theft) Against the state (treason) Against Religion (These are not legal crimes) Sin: To turn away from God or to break God’s rules. (Adultery)
