4 Cyclical Movements Rotation Revolution Comparison Table
Name: Date: Class Period: Cyclical Movements Rotation Comparison Table 2 Overall Concept Concept 3 Characteristics Objective Revolution A rotation is a circular movement of an object around a center (or point) of rotation. A 3D three- dimensional object rotates always around an imaginary line called a rotation axis A revolution is the orbital motion about a point, especially as the planetary revolution about the sun. The Earth’s planetary revolution about the sun takes days, and because the Earth tilts on it’s axis the sun’s energy will be most direct causing summer in one hemisphere, and indirect causing winter in another hemisphere. The Earth’s rotation on it’s axis takes 24hrs, causing day to the hemisphere facing the sun and night in the hemisphere facing away from the sun. 8.7 (A) model and illustrate how the tilted Earth rotates on its axis, causing day and night, and revolves around the Sun causing changes in seasons;

5 Cyclical Movements Rotation Revolution Comparison Table
Name: Date: Class Period: Cyclical Movements Rotation The Earth Sun and Moon are all in constant motion. Both start with the letter R and end with the letter N The motion will cause cycles & patterns of phenomena on Earth . The amount of time it takes for the Earth to rotate and revolve is predictable and follows a pattern. Each movement causes a different cycle or pattern observed on earth. Rotation spins on an axis, around itself The Rotation of the Earth on it’s axis causes day & night every 24 hr. Revolution spins around another object. The Rotation of a tilted Earth around the Sun causes the seasons every year. Rotation & Revolution are both ways to describe the patterns of how the Earth, Sun, & Moon move in the Universe. Rotation of the Earth on it’s axis causes day and night, and the revolution of the Earth around the Sun causes the seasons every year. The cyclical movements of the Earth, Sun, and Moon are important to understand because….
