1 Rise of Hitler

2 Beginnings Born in Braunau, Austria.
Wanted to be a painter but couldn’t succeed. Hitler joins the German Army during WW1.

3 Nazi party After the war Hitler wanted to blame someone.
Establishes Nazi party (Nationalist Socialist Party) 1920’s Hitler begins political Career. Creates Swastika as Nazi Symbol.

4 Beer Hall Putsch Hitler begins campaigning at Beer Halls.
Arrested in 1924. Sentenced to two years in Jail for trying to overthrow the government (Weimar Republic). While in jail for two years Hitler writes a book titled Mein Kampf. -means “My Struggle.” Blames the Jews.

5 Great Depression begins
1929 European Depression begins. -high unemployment and low economic activity Two Causes -Downturn of Economies -U.S. Stock market Crash Hitler will discuss the depression and look to get the Germany out of it.

6 Nazi Party gains strength
1928 Party gains seats in Parliament. Hitler campaigns all over the country. Buys a plane in order to seem modern and speak all over the country. 1930- Party wins 107 seats. 1933- Hitler named Chancellor.

7 Road to war Hitler begins expanding Military, creating weapons, and creates Autobahn. -This is illegal but he is not punished by Britain or France. Known as Appeasement 1936- Occupies Rhineland (demilitarized zone between France and Germany). -Hitler and Germany are not punished.

9 Road to war Occupies his home country Austria.
Munich Conference- Hitler meets with World leaders and is allowed to take Sudentland if he stops invading. Hitler breaks promise and takes Czech.

10 Britain and France Britain and France both pledge to defend Poland.
Hitler and Germany invades Poland. Only takes a month to take Poland. Hitler signs a nonaggression treaty with Stalin of Russia.
