1 Plant Growth Project Lab Report
Rough Draft Your final draft of the Plant Growth Project Lab Report will need to include the following items:

2 Title- The title should be in the form of “The effect of ______(I. V
Title- The title should be in the form of “The effect of ______(I.V.)______ on _____(D.V.)______.” The title should be centered at the top of the page and should be slightly bigger than the rest of the text.

3 Question- The question should be in the form of
“Does ___(I.V.)___ have an effect on __(D.V.)__?”

4 Research- This section should include a brief paragraph about information related to answering the question. You should use this information to help develop your hypothesis. The information should come from reliable sources and should be appropriated cited (APA style) in this section.

5 Hypothesis- Using the information gained from your research, form an educated guess as an answer to
the question.

6 Your hypothesis should be in the form of “If the ___I. V
Your hypothesis should be in the form of “If the ___I.V.___ is changed in this way, then the ____D.V.____ will change in this way.” Example: If the amount of water given to a plant is increased, then the plant height will increase.

7 Independent Variable (I. V. )- Identify the I. V. in the experiment
Independent Variable (I.V.)- Identify the I.V. in the experiment. This will be the variable that is being tested and/or the one that you are changing and manipulating.

8 Dependent Variable (D. V. )- Identify the D. V. in the experiment
Dependent Variable (D.V.)- Identify the D.V. in the experiment. This will be the variable that you are measuring or observing.

9 Constant – Identify and list the parts of the experiment that you intend on keeping constant or the same. There should be quite of few of these.

10 Experimental Group- This is the group of trials that are exposed to the independent variable. This is the “non-normal” group.

11 Control Group- This is the group of trials that are not exposed to the independent variable. This is the“normal” group.

12 Materials- Identify and make a list of all the materials that you will need to complete the experiment. Be sure to be specific and include not only the items but also the quantities needed.

13 Procedure- Create a numbered list of the steps required to accurately repeat the experiment. The procedure should be detailed enough so that a peer could complete an identical experiment.

14 Data- This section should include data tables and appropriate graphs.

15 Conclusion- This section should include an answer to your original question based on data from this experiment. This is not your opinion and should not be based on what you think should’ve or could’ve happened. Your answer should reference your data. Also you should answer all of the conclusion questions. We will discuss more on the format of the conclusion section a little bit later.

16 This is your bellwork... You work for a company that supplies sunflowers to a local florist. The florist wants the biggest, fastest growing sunflower plants that you can provide in six weeks. Your job is to determine how to grow big sunflowers plants fast. Think about some ways that you may be able to grow plants big and fast. Your assignment is to come up with three testable questions, that we could test as a class.
