Overview In the 2017 gender inequality index, Myanmar ranks as 106th of 189 countries. The Myanmar government is a signatory to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Beijing Platform for Action, the International Conference on Population and Development and the Millennium Declaration

OBJECTIVE The objective of this strategy is everyone has Equal Rights but still need to protect the situations like Violence Against Women, Women and Emergencies, Economic Empowerment for Women, Women and Decision-Making levels, Institutional Mechanisms for the Advancement of Women such as Women Groups and Leadership, Women and Human Rights, Women and the Media, Women and the Environment and The Girl Child are the priority intervention to support in two tracks approaches of Mainstreaming and Targeted Action toward Gender Equality.

Gender Mainstreaming Minimum Standards:
To ensure that we systematically addresses the gender equality dimensions relevant to its normative work and country-level programs and projects, we will put in place the following standards for gender mainstreaming by 2019:

Utilize the statistical data bases incorporate sex-disaggregated data, where relevant and as available; in the short-run, this includes mining available data sources, notably household surveys, for gender-disaggregated statistics. In the long-run, separate efforts are to be made to collect and disseminate gender disaggregated data Promote in strengthening the capacity of member countries to develop, analyze and use sex-disaggregated data in policy analysis and program and project planning and evaluation. In particular, technical support to data collection activities in country such as agricultural censuses and surveys, will promote the mainstreaming of gender issues as indicated in the Country Strategy. Analysis is carried out and a gender action plan is developed for all strategic objectives and progress on gender equality is measured for all corporate outcomes Improve the financial target for resource allocation for this policy is set and met Framework preparation (this includes all field programs and emergency projects

Five Key Steps of Implementation & Oversight:
Capacity development and selection of Gender Focal Point from Staff at Head Office Levels and Projects Level. Knowledge building and capacity strengthening of staff and advocacy to local authorities, department officials and private sectors we are working with. Media and communication in public branding for the promotion of Leadership and Women in specific needs for advocacy including publication and reports. Partnership with gender promotion network including United Nations Major Group on Women and Girls. Commission an external gender audit or peer review with external experts in the areas of monitoring, reporting, oversight, capacity building, implementation and evaluation of technical work and mechanisms and processes to implement its gender policy in every 5 years and oversee implementation of the recommendations( where is relevant, IASC’s Gender with Age Marker).

UNDERSTANDING GENDER “ GENDER refers to the social differences between females and males throughout the life cycle that are learned, and though deeply rooted in every culture, are changeable over time and have wide variations both within and between cultures”. (Inter-Agencies Standing Committee-IASC’s Gender Handbook).
