This includes some action verbs and all linking verbs.

3. In order for a sentence to have a direct object, the sentence must contain an action verb.
An action verb is a verb that you can do.
The boy dropped the ball.
The dog lost his bone.

4. To find the direct object you follow these steps.
1. You put all prepositional phrases in parenthesis.
2. Find the simple predicate/action verb.
3. Find the simple subject.
4. Ask yourself, “(verb) what?”
