Probability

What is probability?

How can you express probability?

Definitions Theoretical Probability – calculated based on Math formulas. Ex. The odds of flipping “heads” on a coin is ½. Theoretical probability = number of favourable outcomes ÷ number of total outcomes

Definitions Experimental Probability – based on data we have collected. You perform an experiment and base probability on your results. Ex. Grady scores in 70% of his hockey games. Experimental probability = Number of occurrences ÷ Number of trials

Definitions Subjective Judgement – This is when decisions are made by or affected by the mind of the person making the decision. The results are from the feelings of the person making the decision. Ex. “I had a feeling that we would have a quiz today.”

Ex. If we flip a coin 100 times, how many times will we flip “heads”.
Theoretical Probability = Experimental Probability =

Ex. If we roll a dice 100 times, how many times will we roll a “4”?
Theoretical Probability = Experimental Probability=
